Frequently Asked Questions
Hello from Klowa!
Thank you for visiting our online shop. By purchasing from us, you are supporting a small independent business and local artisans, who make high-quality handmade goods with eco-conscious practices.
Who is Klowa?
When we opened our brick & mortar shop in early 2016, we named it after Klowa Mountain, a rugged peak across the river from Lytton. The name of the mountain comes from a Nlaka'pamuxcin word meaning "light yellow-green."
The team behind Klowa is Meghan, who designs, knits, curates, and shopkeeps; her two-year-old Helen, who helps at the shop and insists on good work/life balance; and Jason and Sandra, who co-own and run the Klowa Café.
Where are you located?
The Klowa Art Café, with its exclusive line of Klowa Handknits, is at 350 Main Street, Lytton, BC, Canada. Get directions.
Who are your photographers?
We feel very lucky to work with such talented women.
Who are your models?
They're all Lytton locals, and all the photos were taken in the Lytton area.
Which currency do you use?
All prices are listed in Canadian dollars.
Do you charge tax?
Yes, to all addresses within Canada. Taxes will be calculated upon checkout.
How much will shipping cost?
We offer free shipping on orders of $75 within Canada and $100 to the United States. Below that, a flat rate applies. See our Shipping Policy for more details.
When will my order ship?
Most items will ship within two business days of purchase. You will receive confirmation emails as we receive, process, and ship your order.
Please contact us for rush orders.
How do I wash my handknits?
With the right care, your Klowa hat or cowl will become an heirloom piece. All pieces are handwashed by the artisan (and dried in front of the woodstove) prior to purchase.
Organic Cotton Knits: Soak in warm-to-hot water with a gentle soap. Rinse. (We prefer no-rinse soaps like Soak or Eucalan.) Put in a washing machine for the spin cycle only to remove excess water. Lay flat to dry.
Are the handknits itchy?
Klowa's Organic Cotton Collection is made from luxuriously soft cotton, making it suitable for the most sensitive skin. The organic cotton is either plant-dyed or colour grown, meaning that no harmful dyes or chemicals are used in its production.
What is colour-grown cotton?
Colour-grown cotton means that the cotton grew in that colour: no dye is used. We choose colour-grown cotton because it is organic, chemical-free, and sustainably produced... not to mention beautiful.
The yarn we use is EKO Certified Organic by USDA, GOTS, Control Union, SKAL & Certified Fair Trade by Control Union Fair Choice.
