All of my immediate family members have been directly impacted by the fire. Though my daily life remains the same, my heart hurts for my home town.
When making a new pair of earrings, I first design the pattern; graphing it out can take from several hours to a few days to be finished. Then I usually put on a show and bring my design to life, bead by bead.
Chloe is a self-taught beader who took up the art form as a way to connect with her Nlaka’pamux culture. She creates handwoven seed bead earrings, incorporating both traditional and contemporary designs. She is also a self-proclaimed crazy cat lady.
Because she loves seeing people wear her big dangly earrings, Chloe’s favourite thing to make are large fringe earrings. Her most popular design was inspired by the shux-shux (grizzly bear) paw pictographs found in the Stein Valley near Lytton.
